Frozen River Oscar nominee Melissa Leo will join former The Wire alums Wendell Pierce (Detective Bunk) and Clarke Peters (Lester Freamon) for HBO’s Treme, the upcoming drama from Wire creator David Simon. Set in post-Katrina New Orleans, Leo will play a civil rights lawyer. The pilot is scheduled to begin shooting later this month.
In an October 2007 New Yorker profile piece that ran during the final Wire season, Simon outlined the change in scenery and outlook for the new series, calling it a “smaller, more intimate story about musicians reconstituting their lives.” He added, “This show will be a way of making a visual argument that cities matter. ‘The Wire’ has not really done that…we’ve been so angry about what’s been mangled in public policy, and what’s at stake, that we really didn’t have time to celebrate what the city can be.”
I am so excited for this. It better get picked up. Steve Zahn is in it, too, I believe.
All 5 seasons of The Wire watched in 6 days. I am a sick, sick person. It’s 8 am and I’m done.
I always get sad when a (good) series is over. It’s like, what the hell do i do now? Sigh. Maybe I’ll move on to Deadwood next.
TV on DVD is a great concept, but it can be dangerous. For example, since Monday, I have sat and watched 37 episodes of The Wire. That is THIRTY SEVEN HOURS of television. Granted, now I’m definitely in agreement that The Wire is the best television show of the last decade, but fuck. And after all that, I’m just three seasons down, two more to go (so don’t spoil anything for me or I will cut you).
Like with Big Love, I’m a bit late to the party because all I’ve really done for the last 4 years is work my ass off and it’s nice to finally have time for myself. I can stay up late, wake up late, watch 37 hours of TV on DVD in three days if I want…It won’t be forever, but for now, I am enjoying it.
Just bought this. Season 2, here I come!
